Usage Note

Hepatitis is a medical loanword referring to inflammation of the liver, usually caused by a virus. It is invariable in form — the plural is also hepatitis (no -es added). Spanish distinguishes types with letters: hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C. The word is always feminine: la hepatitis.
