Usage Note

Funcional describes something that works properly or is designed for practical use over aesthetic appeal (diseño funcional, functional design). In linguistics, gramática funcional is a specific school of grammar. The adverb is funcionalmente. It does not share the clinical English meaning of 'functional disorder' as strongly — trastorno funcional does exist but is less common than in English medical writing.
