evangelio
gospel
noun eh-bahn-HEH-lyoh Rare
Origin: From Greek euangelion (good news), via Latin evangelium.
Usage Note
Evangelio denotes one of the four canonical Gospels and, by extension, any teaching held as absolute truth — para ella eso es el evangelio ('she takes that as gospel'). The g before e is the 'h' sound in Spanish (evangelio ≠ 'ev-an-GEL-io').
Examples
