Usage Note

Etarra denotes a member or suspected member of ETA, the now-defunct Basque separatist organisation. It is a common-gender noun: el etarra, la etarra. The word is almost exclusively used in Spanish political and journalistic contexts and has no broader metaphorical use. ETA announced its dissolution in 2018.
