Usage Note

Estampar means to imprint a design on a surface (fabric, paper, metal) and also, colloquially, to hurl something forcefully against a surface: estampó el móvil contra la pared ('he smashed the phone against the wall'). The reflexive estamparse means to crash into something at speed. The noun estampado refers to a printed pattern on fabric.
