espléndido

splendid

adjective es-PLEN-dee-doh Rare

Also means

generous

Usage Note

Espléndido carries two distinct senses: describing something magnificent or impressive (un paisaje espléndido = a splendid landscape) and describing a person who is lavishly generous (es muy espléndido con sus amigos = he is very generous with his friends). The second sense is a false friend for English speakers who only know 'splendid.' The adverb espléndidamente covers both.

Examples

"Preparó una cena espléndida para los invitados."

Natural Translation

She prepared a splendid dinner for the guests.
