Española is the feminine form of español, functioning as both noun ('a Spanish woman') and adjective ('Spanish'). As an adjective it agrees in gender with its noun: la lengua española, la tortilla española. The masculine español is also used generically for the language: hablar español. Note that español and castellano are both used for the language, with castellano preferred in some Latin American countries.
