Usage Note
Escalón is one individual step of a staircase or ladder, or figuratively a rung or level in a hierarchy. The plural escalones is regular. Distinguish from escalera (the staircase as a whole) and peldaño, a near-synonym for a single step. Escalar posiciones is the verb phrase for climbing the ranks.
Examples
