ende
hence
adverb EHN-deh Rare
Origin: From Latin inde, 'from there, thence'.
Also means
therefore
Usage Note
Ende almost exclusively appears in the fixed phrase por ende, meaning 'therefore' or 'hence', common in formal writing and speech. Using ende on its own outside that phrase is archaic. A learner who knows por lo tanto or por consiguiente will recognize por ende as a slightly more elevated synonym.
Examples
"No estaba listo; por ende, perdimos el tren."
Natural Translation
He was not ready; hence, we missed the train.
