enclave
enclave
noun ehn-KLAH-beh Rare
Origin: From French enclave, from enclaver 'to enclose'.
Usage Note
Enclave denotes a territory or community surrounded by, or embedded within, a different territory or group. It is used both geopolitically (Ceuta and Melilla are Spanish enclaves in Morocco) and figuratively for any isolated pocket within a larger whole. The stress falls on the second syllable, unlike English.
Examples
"El pueblo es un enclave medieval bien conservado."
Natural Translation
The town is a well-preserved medieval enclave.
