Usage Note

Doler is a reverse-construction verb like gustar: the body part is the grammatical subject and the person is the indirect object — me duele la cabeza (my head hurts), NOT yo duelo mi cabeza. It is stem-changing (o→ue): duele, duelen. It can also express emotional pain: me dolió su respuesta (his reply hurt me).

Examples

"Me duele mucho la espalda hoy."

My back hurts a lot today.

Literal Translation

To-me hurts the back today.
