director
director; manager
noun dee-rek-TOHR Common
Origin: from Latin director
Also means
principal; head
Usage Note
Director has a regular feminine form directora. It covers the director of a film (director de cine), the head of a school (director del colegio), and a company manager (director general = CEO). In music, el director de orquesta is the conductor. Unlike English 'director', in Spain director of a school usually means a teaching principal, not a non-teaching administrator.
Examples
"La directora llegó tarde hoy."
Natural Translation
The director arrived late today.
