deslumbrante

dazzling

adjective dehs-loom-BRAHN-teh Rare

Usage Note

Deslumbrante derives from the verb deslumbrar ('to dazzle', 'to blind with light') and describes anything overwhelmingly brilliant — a performance, a smile, a sunset. It is invariable for gender (same form for masculine and feminine), only changing in the plural: deslumbrantes. In figurative use it often carries the nuance that the brilliance is almost too much to take in.

Examples

"La actuación fue absolutamente deslumbrante."

Natural Translation

The performance was absolutely dazzling.
