Usage Note
Descuento is used in commerce for a price reduction (hacer un descuento, to give a discount). In sport, tiempo de descuento or el descuento refers to injury/stoppage time added at the end of a match — a very frequent collocation in football commentary. Note also that descuento is a homograph of the first-person present of descontar (to deduct).
