Descabellado literally means 'dishevelled' (from cabello, hair) but is used figuratively to mean a plan or idea that is utterly absurd or wild. It is stronger than ridículo and carries a sense of reckless implausibility. The verb is descabellar, rarely used outside bullfighting.
