Demanda has two common senses: economic demand (oferta y demanda = supply and demand) and a legal claim or lawsuit (presentar una demanda = to file a lawsuit). The verb is demandar, which also means to sue. Do not confuse with exigencia (requirement/demand in the sense of insistence).
