Usage Note

Custodia covers both legal custody of a child (custodia compartida = joint custody) and the physical guarding of a person or object. In religious contexts it also refers to the monstrance (the ornate vessel used to display the Eucharist in Catholic worship). The verb is custodiar and the agent noun is custodio ('custodian, guard').
