Usage Note
Contemporáneo means belonging to the same era as a reference point or belonging to the present time. It can be used after ser to describe a work as modern or alongside a historical figure: fue contemporáneo de Cervantes (he was a contemporary of Cervantes). The noun un contemporáneo refers to a person of the same era. It should not be confused with actual, which in Spanish means 'current' rather than 'actual'.
