Also means
bribed
Usage Note
Comprado is the past participle of comprar used as an adjective. It most simply means 'purchased' (el libro comprado ayer) but in a figurative sense it means 'bought off' or 'bribed' (juez comprado = a corrupt judge who was bribed). Context distinguishes the two: physical objects are 'bought', people or votes can be 'bought' in the corrupt sense.
Examples
"El árbitro fue comprado por el equipo local."
Natural Translation
The referee was bribed by the local team.
