Usage Note
Ciudadana is the feminine form of ciudadano (citizen). Both forms are common in official and political language: derechos de los ciudadanos y ciudadanas (rights of citizens). The word can also function as an adjective: una iniciativa ciudadana (a citizens' initiative). In Latin America ciudadana is also used as an informal title of address in some countries, similar to 'ma'am'.
