Cirugía refers both to the medical specialty of surgery and to a specific surgical operation. The surgeon is a cirujano/cirujana. Common phrases include sala de cirugía (operating room) and cirugía estética (cosmetic surgery). Note that in Spain cirugía plástica and cirugía estética are used somewhat interchangeably, while in formal medical usage plástica covers reconstructive procedures and estética covers elective cosmetic ones.
