Usage Note

Casete is the Hispanicized spelling recommended by the RAE, though cassette (with double s) is still widely seen. It is masculine (el casete) when referring to the tape format, but some speakers use the feminine when emphasizing the physical tape itself. The technology is now largely historical, though it enjoys a retro revival.
