cancelado

cancelled

adjective kahn-seh-LAH-doh Rare

Usage Note

Cancelado is the past participle of cancelar used as an adjective. It describes an event, reservation, or contract that has been officially called off. In informal Latin American Spanish — especially among younger speakers — cancelar has also acquired the English 'cancel culture' sense of publicly shunning someone, making cancelado a loanword meaning 'cancelled' in that social sense.

Examples

"El vuelo fue cancelado por mal tiempo."

Natural Translation

The flight was cancelled due to bad weather.
