caluroso

warm, hot

adjective kah-loo-ROH-soh Rare

Also means

warm (reception, atmosphere)

Usage Note

Caluroso describes both literal heat (a warm day) and figurative warmth (a warm welcome — una calurosa bienvenida). For weather, caluroso and cálido overlap, but cálido is more neutral while caluroso often implies uncomfortable heat. Do not confuse with caliente, which means 'hot to the touch' or 'heated' and has additional informal meanings that can be vulgar.

Examples

"Fue un día caluroso de verano."

Natural Translation

It was a hot summer day.
