córtex
cortex
noun KOR-teks Rare
Origin: From Latin cortex (bark, rind, outer layer).
Usage Note
Córtex is an invariable noun — it does not add -es to form the plural, and both the singular and plural forms are córtex. It is used in neuroscience: córtex cerebral (cerebral cortex). The accent mark marks stress on the first syllable, as the word would otherwise default to penultimate stress.
Examples
"El córtex prefrontal regula la toma de decisiones."
Natural Translation
The prefrontal cortex regulates decision-making.
