biblia

Bible

noun BEE-blyah Rare

Origin: Greek biblia (books), from byblos (papyrus)

bible (authoritative text)

Usage Note

Biblia with a capital B refers to the Christian or Hebrew scriptures; lowercase biblia is used figuratively for any definitive reference work — la biblia del diseñador (the designer's bible). It is always feminine. The adjective bíblico means 'biblical.' Note the written accent on bíblico but not on Biblia itself.
