biógrafo

biographer

noun bee-OH-grah-foh Rare

Origin: From Greek bios (life) + graphein (to write), via Latin.

Usage Note

Biógrafo refers to the person who writes a biography, not the book itself — the book is biografía. The feminine form is biógrafa. In Chile and Argentina, biógrafo also colloquially meant 'cinema' in older usage, though this is now archaic.

Examples

"La biógrafa entrevistó a la familia del poeta."

Natural Translation

The biographer interviewed the poet's family.
