Usage Note
Asolar means to lay waste to a place, typically used for natural disasters or wars (el terremoto asoló la ciudad). It is a formal synonym of devastar and arrasar. Note it is a stem-changing verb (o→ue in the present: asuela) and should not be confused with asolar meaning 'to sun' (a different, rare verb spelled identically).
Examples
"La sequía asoló los cultivos de la región."
Natural Translation
The drought ravaged the crops in the region.
