Also means
owner
Usage Note
Amo historically meant the male head of a household or slave-owner; today it most naturally appears in the phrase amo de casa (househusband) or in animal contexts for a pet's owner. The feminine ama survives in ama de casa (housewife) and ama de llaves (housekeeper). In modern speech dueño is the neutral word for owner.
